Lets face it queens, our lives are in a constant state of flux. As women, we give so much of ourselves and our time to our spouses, our children, our families, and our careers (just to name a few), that we have little to no time to invest in ourselves. This has to change ladies! I would like to introduce you to the golden day. What is this you ask? Well, it is a day fit for a queen-such as yourselves. GOLDEN INGREDIENT #1: HONEY
I loves me some honey! I love the taste, the medicinal benefits, and most importantly I love how it’s made. After learning how honey is made, I have developed a new appreciation for bees and their ingenuity. I don’t mean to digress, but, I would like to share this process with you, so you too can develop a fondness for these miraculous creatures.
So, how is honey made?
Bees collect nectar from flowers through their straw like mouths. Depending on which flowers nectar is extracted from, honey can take on several different darker hues. The nectar is stored in the bee’s “honey” stomach which is separate from its’ “personal” stomach. Yes, these miraculous little creatures have two separate stomachs. The nectar is then passed from one bee to another until the water content is diminished. The bees then store the nectar in the honeycomb where the remaining water evaporates. Bees accelerate the evaporation process by fanning their wings. Once the nectar becomes honey, it is stored in a cell of the honeycomb and sealed off with a plug of wax for future use. As you can see naturals, it really does take a village!
- As an emollient, it softens the hair
- As a humectant, it attracts and retains moisture from the air
- Seals moisture in
- Strengthens hair follicles
- Lightens hair naturally
- Antiseptic & antibacterial properties keeps scalp clean
GOLDEN INGREDIENT #2: CINNAMON
Did y’all know that there are two types of cinnamon? Yeah I know.. I couldn’t belive it either! The two types are cassia and ceylon (also called “true” cinnamon) and they are not created equally. In the U.S.A, we typically consume cassia cinnamon. The difference between cassia and ceylon is the amount of coumarin present in each type. Coumarin is a substance that can be toxic to one’s liver and kidneys when consumed regularly and for a prolonged period of time. Ceylon has a very small amount of coumarin while cassia has almost 1200 times the amount of this substance. In other words, cassia-the type commonly consumed by Americans-can be dangerous to one’s health when consumed in large amounts over an extended period of time. This is astonishing! Why has no one ever told me this? (smh)….In order to reap all the great health benefits of cinnamon and to avoid the possible dangers, it would be best to consume the ceylon cinnamon or the “true” cinnamon rather than cassia cinnamon. Ceylon is a little more expensive than cassia, however, the long-term health benefits far outweigh the cost.
- High source of antioxidant
- Stimulates scalp and improves the circulation of nutrient rich blood to hair follicles
- Exfoliates and cleans scalp
- Accelerates hair growth
- Anti-fungal & anti-bacterial properties
♥ I would purchase and use ceylon cinnamon rather than cassia cinnamon for this golden hair smoothie. Just to be on the safe side!
GOLDEN INGREDIENT #3: PLAIN ORGANIC YOGURT
Plain organic yogurt has a ton of health benefits. It is a probiotic; it’s rich in protein; and all this creamy goodness has a plentiful amount of vitamins and minerals. Due to it’s high concentration of lactic acid, plain organic yogurt provides an abundant amount of benefits to our lovely crowns: our hair. It is an organic acid that acts as an exfoliating cleansing agent, it slows moisture loss, and it relaxes and softens the hair just to name a few. This “good”acid has been used in many cosmetic and beauty products throughout the world and for several years. Queens in Egypt also used natural beauty products with lactic acid in it to beautify their skin and hair. So, it only seems fit for us queens to also incorporate this “good” acid into our beauty and haircare routines.
